Campaign to Save Kidsgrove Delivery Office

On Friday 28th October, I attended a meeting with Joan Walley MP, and the following Councillors:

Margaret Astle, Ray Astle, Les Goldspink, Dave Stringer, Terry Turner and representatives from Royal Mail. The meeting was held at Kidsgrove's Victoria Hall.

My colleagues and I had called this meeting as we are concerned about the closure of Kidsgrove's sorting office/depot. The sorting office is located in Congleton Road, Butt Lane and there are proposals to close Kidsgrove's sorting office and move the staff to Royal Mail's Knutton depot.

Oh, the Knutton depot is situated in Newcastle-under-Lyme!

I am sorry to say that the representative from Royal Mail were very unhelpful and they also stated that any conversation regarding the meeting should not be placed within the public domain.

It's nothing more than a shambles!

Royal Mail should be ashamed of their dictatorship attitude regarding the proposal to close Kidsgrove's sorting office.

We will be leafleting the Ravenscliffe ward with our campaign leaflet shortly, so please keep a lookout for our leaflet and help us to save YOUR sorting office.

Friends of Bathpool Park

The next meeting of the Friends of Bathpool Park will take place at Kidsgrove Town Hall on Thursday 20th October, commencing at 7.00pm.

This is an important meeting as the carnage of the destroyed trees will be discussed as well as the legal implications surrounding the erection of a barbed wire fence.

All members of the public are cordially invited to this meeting.

The meeting will be chaired by Margaret Astle.

Kidsgrove Town Council's new website

On the 6th May elections were held for Newcastle Borough Council and Kidsgrove Town Council. Kidsgrove Town Council comprises of five wards within the Kidsgrove District. A total of 24 seats were contested and below are the results of the five wards.

Unfair cuts leave Ravenscliffe reeling
Labour fights threat to police service

Joan Walley MP says: "Labour does not agree with the Conservative/Lib Dem Government's drastic cuts to public spending.

Instead of cutting too much, too fast, Labour would have reduce the deficit and make economies over a planned period. Now though, we face massive cuts, including the threat to our police station.

I've asked Staffordshire Police to give me their plans for Kidsgrove/Ravenscliffe and to consult about future services. We need assurances about police cover locally."

Labour's Gill Burnett says: "Many residents tell me they will feel unsafe if Kidsgrove police station shuts and once closed, of course, it may never reopen. That would be a tragedy.

The police have been told that they must cut their budget by £20 million and the blame lies squarely with the Lib Dem and Tories, who run the coalition Government.

Whitehill Burglary

Between Monday 31st May and Thursday 3rd June a burglary was committed at a dwelling in Galleys Bank Kidsgrove. Entry was gained whilst the occupants were on holiday, by reaching through a cat flap and removing a key from the door. Stolen was a laptop computer a Sky HD box and a quantity of DVD's. Please pass this message onto your neighbours and ask them to be extra vigilant. If any of your neighbours are away please make regular checks of their property and report any suspicious persons or incidents to the police immediately.

£70,000 That's how much tax payers have lost because of recycling blunders by the Tory/Lib Dem Council

Council tax payers have missed out on an astonishing £70,000 because of 'administrative errors' by the Tory Lib Dem controlled Newcastle Council.

Last month the Tory/Lib Dem Council failed to submit the paperwork needed to claim £1.2million in recycling credits. The £1.2million can be paid once their files have been checked.

But the the blunders mean that a whopping £70,000 in interest on the money has been lost forever.

Yes, £70,000 of your cash thrown away by a careless mistake.

Recycling is the responsibility of the Lib Dem Cabinet member, Councillor David Beckett and no apologies have been received for the loss of £70,000 of your hard-earned money.

Gill Burnett says: "Their mistakes are a disgrace. The only thing they're good at recycling are their excuses for failure."

Why are we still waiting for garden waste bins?

Labour's Gill Burnett is angry because many Ravenscliffe residents still don't have garden waste collections. The Lib Dems - who are in charge of recycling in Ravenscliffe have not kept their promise to provide the service to every home with a garden.

"So far only part of the Ravenscliffe ward gets the green waste bins. People in other parts are still waiting for the Lib Dems to deliver on their promises." says Gill.

Gill Burnett is fed up with the Lib Dem's and their broken promises. Councillor David Beckett is in charge of recycling for the Ravenscliffe ward, and to make matters worse, Newcastle Borough Council has the worst recycling record out of all the District Council's.

"No wonder you can't trust the Newcastle Lib Dems." says Gill.

You might have read in the Tory and Lib Dem newsletters that John Taylor and Margaret Astle voted to cut the highways budget.

This is nonsense!

It's nothing more than scaremongering!

The Tories and Lib Dems should be ashamed of their inability to reveal the truth!

Below is a statement from the leader of Staffs County Council, Councillor John Taylor:

County Council leader John Taylor said the Conservatives and the Lib Dems had again wilfully misunderstood the figures.

"The review of budget savings reported at cabinet made it clear that there will be no change in the money available for Staffordshire Highways maintenance and projects for the coming year.

In fact there will be more money available . . .

£0.976 million has come from a reduction in projected inflation cost in line with the latest national rate forecasts. Another £0.97 million was identified from the cash pot.

Our total commitment to Staffordshire Highways can't be underestimated. The year we ploughed an extra £2 million into the service, and we have earmarked a further £3 million over the next three years.

I'm sorry if the Tories and the Lib Dems don't understand the detail of this prudent financial management, but they should welcome a strategy which protects public service and the tax payer."

Well folks, we have a huge increase in the Highways budget but Simon Tagg and John Parsons won't admit this.

I'm Gill Burnett, your trustworthy candidate for the Ravenscliffe election that will take place on 5 May 2011. I have been campaigning to help 'save Kidsgrove police station from closing'.
